Cultivation of Lemon Grass

It grows in dense clumps in tropical or subtropical climates. Propagation is by dividing the root clump. The plants last three to four years and are harvested every three to five months. It is grown throughout Southeast Asia, Southern India, Sri Lanka, Central Africa, Brazil, Guatemala, the US and the West Indies.

Lemongrass is not frost-hardy, so in the colder climates it should be dug and potted to be grown indoors in a sunny window for the winter.

Root a stalk by submerging the root end in a glass of water, or insert directly into damp soil and keep well watered. One stalk easily multiplies into fifty in no time and forms a large clump.
